So, I dragged my behind out of bed at 5.30 on Saturday morning, packed the car (with just about everything from my craftroom) and had the luxury of Himself driving me to Co. Waterford. He decided to do a bit of exploring around Youghal and Dungarvan so it worked out very well.
There was such a nice bunch of people there, Create with Kate had an enormous shop, Karen Matthews and Betty Cominsky were there ready to alter the cutest little birdhouses, there was knitting, quilting, basket weaving,cake decorating (which was so amazing it was hard to believe it was icing!) Carol Grogan from Crafty Cutting was there, we had very cool Dylusion demos……. (I think my resolve is slipping and it could be a new addiction!! ) and there were lovely ladies who had made hundreds of cakes and kept the refreshments coming all day!!
I had two classes, the first was a mixed media painting. We painted onto wood rather than canvas because its what I prefer – it so much tougher and takes more abuse!! Here is Michelle Bermingham doing her thing, she ended up with a beautiful painting of a birdhouse. It was such a very relaxed class with no rush and we got loads done.
We had a great big classroom and we spread out all over the place! this venue was so perfect,thank you Ballinameela National School for letting us loose in there!!
Later in the day while I was doing the mini album class two more people turned up but they wanted to paint. Since the day was so relaxed and we had so much room it really wasn’t a problem, Donal used the same techniques as the others but chose darker colours. That turned into an outer space type scene with die cut metal planets…..
(for some reason I cant rotate this photo, so turn your head to the left) He decided it wasn’t complete without the Tardis – how cool is that?!
Mary used purples, greens and pinks for her background which was finished off with enameled butterflies. I always forget to take proper photos… I really wish I had taken more because they all did such lovely work!
By the end of the classes Himself was back from his travels, we got some great books at the book sale, were sent home with loads of cakes (Midi’s chocolate biscuit cake won’t last long!!) and the new Tim Holtz alarm clock to play with. I was quite sorry that I wouldn’t be there for the next day.
This event was organised by Midi Walsh, she is a great woman to get things done! It wasn’t as well attended as it could have been, probably because it was a bank holiday with fine weather – but next year will be bigger, these things start small and I really hope this becomes an annual event. I am definately going to be there next March…… Midi is already planning it!!!!
Well, the May bank holiday weekend is sneeking up on us…. this time next week i’ll be packing the car for a very early get away Saturday morning!
Here is a piccy of the album we’ll be making – it uses lots of mixed media techniques, paper, texture, ink, melting stuff but in a mini album…… and not just any mini album, I had the die for these pages made especially for this class!!!!!
So, if you want to come along let me know, there is also a mixed media canvas class but I don’t have the photos of that up yet (that would just be spoiling you!! – joking!!!!)
Now I must leave my craft room and put on my “Mum” hat, cook dinner and take the boy to his tennis lesson. As its the first meeting of the year I suppose I should at least try to get the ink off my fingers?

I am a great one for leaving things to the last minute, but fortunately I had the most of the layout done before TFD (That Fateful Day!) so i’m glad that for once I was oprganised!
On May Bank holiday weekend I will be at Craftschool Waterford – this is going to be a great weekend of non stop classes, demos and craft supply retail therapy!!
Have a look at the blog in the above link, there are all sorts of classes from felt making to hat making, knitting to card making…… all are resonably priced, there are some great teachers and its all been organised by the lovely Midi from Ballinameela. She has put an incredible amount of work into making this a wonderful weekend so it would only be polite to go and enjoy it!
I will be teaching three classes, that go something like this:
Saturday 4th May 9.30-12
A mixed media canvas, you will learn lots of techniques and come out with your own masterpiece!
Just bring basic tools, and an apron – cost: 20 euro
3.30-6pm
I’m really excited about this one! you will need to bring some photos (passport size is ideal) basic tools, adhesive and an apron. We are making an altered mixed media album, the papers for this are so pretty! cost 20 euro.
Then on Sunday 5.30-7.30 there is a beginners beaded jewellery class, I will provide everything for this but if you wear glasses for close work make sure to bring them! the cost is also 20 euro.

I always knew I was blessed with good friends, but I’m amazed at how many of you have left messages of support.
Really, really thank you everyone, i’m surprising myself with what I can dowith my left hand, not that my family are letting me do much!
This is just a blip, i’ll be back. I have always thought that things happen for a reason………. I have no idea what the reason is, but its happened so lets get on with it!

Well, if you are a facebook friend then you will probably know that in a moment of utter stupidity I managed to seriously injure myself last Saturday…..
The bad news is I am now missing two fingers on my right hand (yes, i’m right handed!) and I have badly broken the two that are left……. sorry, I hope I haven’t made you feel queesy!
The good news is, I still have my index finger and thumb, so when its healed I can still hold things (like paint brushes!) and my lovely Fella was researching bionic prosthethic fingers before we even left the hospital!
So, the next 6 weeks will be spent in a cast, trying to learn to use my left hand more. Then we will see what happens. For someone who lives an arty life this isn’t the best news, but Iam very calm and positive about it – so far anyway!
I will be at home, so pop by if you’re local, or send an email if not……. I will be very glad of the company!

I need to practise filming to make it less shakey!!
Once upon a time when there was no more space in my house and everyone was sick of having to climb over the piles of crafting stash, it was decided… “We will build a room!”
There was a small patio area at the back of the sitting room that was hardly ever used, it was where the basket ball hoop and the dustbins lived. We did a lot of research and price costings, saved up, organised a building party (this consisted of Tim, Joe, Christy, and another Tim who worked their behinds off every cold, wet Saturday and were happy to do it for homemade soup and cake – they are really great friends!!)
So, this was the day, way back last October when the base was laid……..
A timber structure went up….
It was clad and roofed and insulated, seriously insulated! That window was taken out and the hole made into a door way from the sitting room, and then the window was replaced into the new wall.
there is that insulation I was telling you about.
The roof has two Velux windows to let in lots of light.
So, all of that took from October to February, it was slow but steady progress (the weather didn’t help much!) Eventually we had a plasterer come and finish the inside, he and the roofer were the only tradesmen we had to hire (I know i’ve said this before, but Tim can fix everything!!) Then we had to wait for that to dry out before we could paint the walls and lay the floor.
I chose white for the walls and ceiling to reflect as much light as possible, the room is 8x10ft which strangely looks bigger finished then when it was being built!
Finally, at the beginning of this month the planning for furniture was done and we took off to Ikea (again-my house is starting to look like an advert for them!)
A friend of mine had given me an old dining table that she was throwing out – I wanted two desks one for the computer and one for crafting on, so I had it cut in half length ways. This gave me long thin desks with only two legs each, but painted them and Tim fixed them to the wall so they are perfect!
When the new furniture was put together I started the long job of moving in….. It took a full week between going to work and sorting through every box and drawer but here it is, the finished craft room!
I am extremely grateful and happy to have this space, Its my birthday next month and Tim asked me what I wanted, I think all the work he has done here will cover birthdays and Christmas gifts forever!!

My brother made this dresser for me, its perfect for a sewing table.
This is the work desk, it looks out onto the deck.
This is the other half of the table, Toby thinks the spotty chair is his!
And this is the other wall, I wanted a high counter for die cutting, so this unit was perfect.
